Latinx Speaker Series Moderator Consuelo Alba-Speyer

By: HFSV September 20, 2021

Under Consuelo’s leadership, the Watsonville Film Festival (WFF) has transitioned from a grassroots collective to a nonprofit arts organization offering year-round film programming. The WFF showcases primarily Latinx stories and uses film as a catalyst to inspire audiences and spark powerful conversations.

Consuelo is thrilled to moderate the conversation between the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley and NETFLIX at our Latinx Speaker Series. Consuelo shares a burning question in mind as she looks forward to sitting down with Francisco Ramos – VP of Spanish Language Originals, “How Latinos in Silicon Valley, California, and the U.S. can connect better with large producers and film makers to tell their stories?”

Consuelo was born and raised in Mexico City and graduated with honors with a Communication Sciences & Journalism BA from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She has lived in the United States for 22 years and has extensive experience as a bilingual filmmaker, journalist, cultural activist and translator. For several years, she worked as an editor and reporter with Nuevo Mundo, the Spanish language publication of the San Jose Mercury News.

In 2010 Consuelo and her husband started Veremos Productions. Her film El Andalón / The Healer screened in more than 30 film festivals worldwide, received numerous awards and was broadcast on Mexican public television.

The Latinx Speaker Series will take place on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Rotary Summit Center in downtown San Jose.

Come out, convene, engage, and represent the Latino community in Silicon Valley.
