Building the Foundation for the Next Generation of Latino STEM Leaders
The Seed (K–12) phase lays the foundation for future Latino STEM professionals. We know that increasing Latino representation in STEM starts early—with helping students see themselves in STEM and engaging families as partners in their educational journey.
To achieve this, HFSV invests in four evidence-based strategies: Parent Education, STEM Exposure, Math & Science Support, and College Readiness. Through partnerships with schools, nonprofit organizations, universities, and industry leaders, we expand access to high-quality programs that prepare Latino students for college and future STEM careers.
Our Objectives
Through our K-12 initiatives, we work to:
- Increase students’ interest and excitement in STEM careers
- Increase student and parent knowledge about the college journey
- Increase high school graduation with A-G requirements met
- Improve college readiness
- Increase the number of Latinos employed in STEM industries
Our Evidence-Based Strategies

Parent Education
Parents are a student’s first and most influential advocate.
Through our 8-week Parent Education Academies (PEA), parents build their knowledge of the education system, college pathways, academic expectations, and strategies to support their children’s success. We also invest in digital literacy programming for parents to better communicate with educators and engage in their students’ education.
STEM Exposure
HFSV provides engaging STEM experiences throughout the school year that help students explore STEM careers, build confidence, and see themselves as future innovators. We offer coding and Artificial Intelligence programs that provide hands-on experience in coding, app development, and AI. And we coordinate field trips with companies like Micron Technology, PayPal, and Everpure so students can see firsthand what a STEM career looks like.

Math & Science Support
HFSV provides engaging STEM experiences for students to explore STEM careers, build confidence, and see themselves as future innovators. We offer coding and Artificial Intelligence programs that provide hands-on experience in coding, app development, and AI. And we coordinate field trips with STEM companies like Micron Technology, PayPal, and Everpure so students can see firsthand what a STEM career looks like.
College Readiness
Throughout the school year, HFSV offers workshops and enrichment opportunities on higher education. Topics include college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, A-G requirements, STEM career exploration, and the transition from high school to college. Students also participate in specialized experiences designed to deepen their interest in STEM, like the newly launched Spring Engineering Education Days (SEEDs). And finally, our AI Launchpad pilot teaches new high school graduate students pursuing STEM majors how to use generative AI.
