A year in review

Top Moment Number 5

This year we hosted two Latinx Speaker Series. The first one, focused on Entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley, convened a panel of entrepreneurs to have a candid conversation about the challenges and opportunities of small business ownership. See the recap here.  The second event, in preparation for the next Latino Report Card, convened experts who back in 2018 helped us unveil how Latinos in Silicon Valley were doing in the areas of Health, Finance, Housing, Education and the Environment. You can see the recap here. A special thank you to all the panelists and the attendees who continue engaging in these very productive conversations! We look forward to many more convening events in 2022.

After 19 months of working from home, the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon team returned to the office this month. The team is excited about being together again in person, of course, while keeping safety precautions in mind. Our HFSV Familia grew as well this year with Karla Mondagron, and Mirella Maldonado, two talented and unique individuals who are great Education Program Coordinators. We also welcomed Paisley Luna and Katella Silva, our San Clara University interns. Click here to learn more about our team.

Top Moment Number 3

For the first time since its inception, we held not two but three Latino Board Leadership Academies, graduating 126 Latinx professionals in one year. They now join a network of 530 like-minded individuals who are already serving, or ready to serve, as nonprofit board members in Silicon Valley.
Latinx leadership in Silicon Valley looks mighty powerful.

On Saturday, October 16, 2021, the Hispanic Foundation Celebration took place in an effort to raise much-needed funds for our Latinx families in Silicon Valley. We couldn’t have raised close to $500K without all of our supporters and sponsors. We hope the stories of resilience and grit from our students and parents left many as inspired as we are to continue working for our community. Please save the date for the 33rd Hispanic Foundation Ball on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

In this challenging year, our Latinos in Technology scholars are the highlight of 2021. They represent our future and continue to persevere in one of the most challenging of years. This year our Latinos in Tech scholars participated in financial literacy workshops, professional development courses, and landed internships, all in remote learning spaces.
You can view our 2021 Latinos in Technology Annual Report to learn more by clicking here. In early 2022 we’ll be announcing the opening of the Latinos in Technology scholarship application, stay tuned for more soon.

Thank you for the commitment you have shown to our community. We are grateful for your friendship and support. Wishing you health, peace, and happiness this holiday season and in 2022. From all of us at the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley.
