Latina scholar seeks to build relationships in high-tech

By: HFSV September 28, 2021

The Latinx Scholar Chat is an interview series with our 399 Latinos in Technology Scholarship Recipients and the President and CEO of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, Ron Gonzales. The interview series gives you a glimpse into our scholars’ lives, unveils their aspirations, and their college journey, one conversation at a time.

In this video, we welcome Yessica Ramirez, a 2019 scholarship recipient who graduated from Chabot College and is currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Cal State East Bay. Alongside being a Latina in pursuit of a STEM degree, Yessica volunteers at the Hispanic Foundation as a Girls Who Code instructor. As a first-generation college student, Yessica acknowledges her exposure to the high-tech industry in Silicon Valley is limited. Luckily, our Conexiones (Connections) Program was created for scholars just like Yessica, where they can build a relationship with other Latinx professionals working in their desired field of interest.
