Carlos A. Bohorquez is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at UC San Diego Health. In this role, he leads the financial operations across three hospitals, 30 ambulatory locations, and a growing network of affiliates. He is responsible for enterprise-wide financial strategy, operating and capital budgeting, supply chain management, revenue cycle optimization, and financial reporting and controls that advance UC San Diego Health’s mission. He also plays a key role in structuring strategic partnerships, guiding major capital initiatives, and optimizing funds flow across the organization.
Mr. Bohorquez brings more than 25 years of experience in health care finance, strategy, and managed care. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, he served as CFO of El Camino Health, a multi-campus health system in the Bay Area. During his tenure, he led the development and execution of a five-year strategic financial plan that drove significant improvements in operating performance, revenue growth, and credit strength. His leadership helped position El Camino Health among the nation’s top health systems for clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
His career includes senior leadership roles at Palomar Health, Tenet Health, GE Healthcare, Kaufman Hall, and Ernst & Young, where he advised academic medical centers and health systems on financial strategy, managed care contracting, and capital planning.
He serves as finance committee chair on the board of the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley, supporting efforts to increase Hispanic representation in STEM fields. He previously chaired the Independent Taxpayer Oversight Committee for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, helping strengthen the county’s transportation infrastructure.
Mr. Bohorquez holds a master’s degree in Health Administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles. He participated in an executive leadership program at Harvard Business School and completed an advanced finance and leadership program at The Wharton School.
