We are just starting to grapple with the impact of the COVID pandemic on our community. The Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley grew out of a special event, the Hispanic Foundation Ball, which took place for the first time in 1990. For the last 32 years, this annual event has not only been the signature event for the Hispanic community of Silicon Valley to convene and celebrate successes but also a crucial source of funding for the organization.
As much as we are mourning the many lives lost, the Latinx Community of Silicon Valley is resilient, has grit, and will move forward. At this year’s annual event, we plan to celebrate virtually precisely that! Not only the disproportionate number of deaths but the impact on Latino-owned businesses and our youth and families.
The Ball is not just a party! Funds raised at the Ball support our three initiatives:
- Provide STEM and college pathways-related classes to over 1,500 families annually.
- Give college scholarships to close to 100 juniors and seniors per year.
- Train over 60 Latino professionals annually on what it takes to be on the Board of a nonprofit organization.
