A seasoned leader with deep roots in community service, Omar began his career organizing in San José’s Washington neighborhood, helping secure vital community assets including a plaza, youth center, and library. He later served 6 years as Deputy Chief of Staff for Councilmember Magdalena Carrasco, mobilizing residents around social justice issues.

Omar transitioned to education leadership by serving on the Franklin-McKinley School Board and the San José-Evergreen Community College District Board. There, he championed educational equity and innovative programs. His higher education career includes faculty and administrative roles at Moorpark College, Santa Ana College, and College of the Canyons, where he expanded career education programs.

Omar is currently serving as the President of De Anza College, bringing his combined experience in community development and education administration to one of California’s premier community colleges. He remains active in Democratic politics as Region 7 Director and is committed to developing diverse leadership.
