Executive Director

Teresa Alverado

As we all know, times are tough right now. Please open your hearts and wallets to help those struggling. The Silicon Valley Open Arms campaign and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s Safety Net Fund are collecting charitable donations to address the safety net needs of our region’s most vulnerable and impacted residents. I encourage you to be a part of these important efforts this holiday season.

Thank you and best wishes to you and yours.

Silicon Valley Open Arms

Between the credit and foreclosure crisis, drop in investment savings, layoffs, and high cost of transportation and food, people are hurting. Nonprofit service providers and community-based organizations are scrambling to serve the increasing number of people in need, with longtime donors becoming first-time clients in some cases.

The Silicon Valley Open Arms campaign was created by a group of concerned funders and community-based organizations that help provide a safety net for local families and individuals. These agencies hope to counter some of the fear and anxiety surrounding the economic crisis and instead encourage people to give what they can and volunteer.

While it’s natural for people to keep a tight grip on their wallets in times like these, it’s critical for those who can to support programs and services that strengthen our safety net and improve financial stability for those most impacted by the economic downturn. We can survive this economic crisis by sticking together and helping those who are less fortunate.

Silicon Valley Safety Net

T he current economic crisis has created a sense of helplessness for so many of us as we watch savings disappear and families become homeless. Most of us have never seen this incredible need for assistance with such basics as food and shelter. Our shelters are full and the food pantries' cupboards are bare.

Silicon Valley Community Foundation has matched donations to help basic needs through the Safety Net Fund. Generous donors like you helped raise $1 million, which the community foundation is matching. Coupled with the $1 million committed in September as part of the community foundation’s grantmaking strategies, this means at least $3 million will be sent into the community for food and shelter.
