Summer algebra 'boot camp' doubles to 1,000 students


At a time when districts throughout the state have cut summer school, a class to boost algebra readiness in Silicon Valley has more than doubled enrollment. Stepping Up to Algebra is conducting a mathematics boot camp for about 1,000 seventh and eighth graders in nine school districts. A vigorous fund-raising campaign by the Silicon Valley Education Foundation enabled the program to expand.


NASA Helps Create a Brighter Future for Students in Silicon Valley


In an effort to keep that flame of curiosity burning brightly, NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., is teaming up with the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) and the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley (HFSV). This collaboration targets students in underprivileged areas throughout the Bay Area to increase their interest and capabilities in science and math by using the NASA curriculum, “Smart Skies.”


The Health Professions Speaker's Bureau Seeks Volunteers!


In an effort to increase diversity of the health care workforce, The Health Trust launched the Health Profession Speaker Program. The program brings health professionals and college students to public high schools in Santa Clara County to speak directly to students about pursuing health careers. The program recruits health professionals from those careers with known deficits in workforce diversity.


Honor Educator Jaime Escalante- Help a Latino Student


On March 30, 2010 the Latino community and our nation lost a great educator, Jaime Escalante. He became America’s most famous teacher after he was the subject of the 1988 film “Stand and Deliver”.
